It is hard enough to deal with a close friend falling victim to the world of drug addiction, but when it is someone that you have been married to for years it can feel like your world is crashing down. If you have found out that your spouse or significant other is dependant on various drugs or alcohol, here are some tips that can help you tackle the situation.
The very first thing that you need to do is get in contact with a few close friends or family members such as parents and siblings to find out what they want to do. Sometimes the family may not want to even be involved and this is fine, they should come around when they are good and ready. Talk to a couple of treatment centers in the state of New York to see what kind of options that you have. A treatment center may be the only way, depending on how bad the actual addiction is.
Once you find a treatment center all set up and ready to go, the hard part is going to be getting your significant other to succumb and agree to the treatment that you are offering. The most important thing that you need to do is keep from getting caught up and upset in all of this mess. Keep a level head and remain as calm as you possibly can when the time comes to talk. You may even want to look into joining a support group of some sort even if you are not the one who has the addiction. This is going to give you a better understanding of what your significant if feeling and going through on a daily basis.
Once you have an understanding of the situation and you have a treatment center in New York in mind, you will be ready to sit down and talk. Make sure that you are as honest as you can possibly be and tell them how you feel about this. Tell your significant other that you are not going to hide their addiction anymore and that now is the time to step up and get some help.
